Today my whole KS2 class have been animating Science topics in small groups:
One group did 'habitats' (lovely little polar bear in a desert, gets hot and pants with tongue, goes to polar climate and cheers up/eats fish), another did 'Isaac Newton and gravity' (yep - the apple and lots of voiceover), one group have storyboarded 'the Water Cycle' and are now tackling the practicalities of how to film it - they've gone for paper, another are doing 'food chains' (beginning with seaweed then a series of sea creatures eating one another until man catches the last one) a group is working on 'Space' (and struggling with this, glad I made them storyboard first) and the last group is attempting a life cycle of a seed (shoots, roots, sprouts, grows, flower, dies, seeds dispersed - skipped pollination but I might see if I can persuade them to go back and add this).
Trouble is I'm out a lot over the next few weeks and am hoping we can get them completed and edited before end of term. TA has been really enjoying herself though - she really freaked when I first mentioned 'animation' - now she's really into it!
My Year 4 Spanish class are currently attempting an animation to go with the current theme of our lesson - El carnaval de los animales (The Carnival of the Animals) We've raided Nursery for some plastic animals and split the class into pairs. Each pair has an animal eg lion, tiger, horse, - in some cases there is an adult and a baby animal, in others just the one. I started off the 'carnival' with elephants to show the class how it was done, and then each pair is working in the corner of the classroom to film their portion of the parade, calling fr the next animal to join as they reach the middle of the 'performing area'. we've done an hour of work on it so far- more tomorrow, then we'll add sound next week - each pair will then be responsible for naming their animal in Spanish, then making the appropriate sound.
Will blog the process as we're learning lots as we go along, but thought I'd comment here quickly.
